Mortal Kombat Vs Street Fighter

by Sean Frenzel on March 16, 2011

Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat? You probably never asked yourself because these two titans of a game differ greatly, ones bloody an ones flashy. Mortal Kombat makes you feel like you’re beating the shit out of your opponent and that just about sums up why a lot of people love MK, oh and you know those Fatality things help-out too by just making MK standout among all the fighters.

Street Fighter has a more “i want to beat your ass up with skill” mood to it. No doubt the series is very fun but i want more than a K.O. when i beat my opponent. The game has been noted for its stellar gameplay and smooth fighting mechanics.

MK and SF have great characters, gameplay, awesome combo moves, and are the two best fighting series to ever grace our eyes. So i pit the question between the fans of MK and SF, why do you prefer one over the other and why is it better?

Wow these dudes look tough, their muscles have muscles

Kinda weird that everyone is the same height

Over the years Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter have been the most dominant and popular fighting games since the arcade days.

MK wasn’t very impressive with its latest release MK vs DC universe, but its about to redeem its household name with MK9 releasing in April.  Everyone knows those famous words FINISH HIM! and what they mean, it means your about to do stuff you can only dream of doing( i hope not).

Street Fighter’s most recent title SF4 is a phenomenal fighting game. SF is more friendly and targets a wider audience whilst MK goes for the M rating. It has still retained its arcade feel keeping its gameplay 2D since the arcade days( Except for EX). SF4 is definitely a more competitive fighter with worldwide competitions. MK is a party game at heart.

To have these games clash in a cross character game like Marvel vs Capcom would be a dream come true for fighter fans, or at least for me it would be. Maybe we could see some SF4 characters get some blood on those outfits for once and show us some Fatalties.  I’m sure many of you will disagree and like SF4 for how it is but don’t tell me you don’t want some bloody action.

Street Fighter has been dominant over they years and has always been great, but it has never changed. I would like to see something like the challenge tower in the upcoming MK on SF. This will surely make MK fans giggle like little school girls getting a pony.

So fighter fans, who will be the victor if these games were to battle it out? Vote, comment, and discuss. The winner will be revealed by the end of April.

MK4 was 3D unless i read that wrong. EDIT i did read it wrong. Even though there 3d spries they still operate like 2d fighters IMO

Street fighter is a much better fighting game IMHO but i do love some MK. Unfortunately i heard the line about MK making a come back the last 3 installments. So i, Even after playing the demo i am skeptical.
I would also really like more friends to be interested in these games and MK helps with that since the FINISH HIM line you reference resonates with more of my generation playing MK1 on Genesis or SNES.

We will see, being that i put about as much time into both of these franchise im really excited to play the new MK in its full combo crazy glory and hope it will stand out a little bit more to get people back into the fighting genre since from my experience after a week of release its back to the hardcore fighting fans only or at least a majority.

I think many people will flock to MK with the new Challenge Tower. It just looks like so much fun.

It seems the person who wrote this article forgets that SF series have done stuff like Challenge Tower many times before in the past.

    Obvious bias fanboy is obvious.

It’s also done full-3D gameplay with the EX series, too.

I never knew about EX so sorry about that. As for the Challenge tower i have never played a street fighter with one like MK will have in MK9.

Same applies to you good sir.

Come on Koijma he is a Bias Fanboy? Please explain.

all you MK fanboys though probably don’t even play fighters just love the blood and guts lol im just kidding btw unless im right then im not kidding. I do love how MK never sells as much as SF(hope im not wrong here) but it’s running away with this poll. Kinda proves my point

I have played every single SF there is known to man and i can safely say that unless im forgetting a really awesome nugget they have not had anything like the MK challenge thing. They have stuff that in a way can be compared but by no means as deep or thought out.

Wrong. Mortal Kombat is “THE MOST POPULAR” fighting franchise in the world. WHen i say popular i dont neccessarily mean competitions and stuff but sales. It holds the guiness world record for most successful fighting series and a several other gaming world records as well. In the 90s mk was incredibly popular.
